John Vanis on starting Phase 2 Pictures

My love for film started when I was a young boy and I would watch the likes of “The Terminator” and “The Breakfast Club,” among many others, countless times. Pair that up with my love for writing, and my aspirations of becoming a filmmaker came to be.

It wasn’t until years later that I had an opportunity to work on an independent feature film “Blessings from the Food Court.” I am grateful for having worked on that film because it is there that I formed lifelong friendships with Juan and Chris. Our dreams and goals of working in this industry were mutual and we strived to make those dreams come true.

Along our journey, we worked with other filmmakers. There was one in particular that we befriended and began to trust. However, we ended up seeing his poor work ethic and his inability to finish a project and that connection to him cost us the opportunity to further our goals.  Uncertain of how to deal with that setback, we ended up going our separate ways.  But that fire within us never burned out.

Now, we are beginning Phase 2 Pictures. Once again, I feel the excitement to work with Juan and Chris. Our passion, professionalism and respect are still evident and 20 years more to our lives has given us more maturity.  I am excited to revisit old stories as well as develop new ideas for film and television. Also, technology has vastly improved since our first run making it much easier and more efficient in having our vision come to life.
